Celebrate Cuban Culture and Cuisine for a Cause
Sarasota, FL – February 19, 2015……..Florida Cancer Specialists (FCS) Foundation’s “Havana Nights” inaugural evening of fun and fundraising will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015, benefitting adults with cancer who need assistance paying their essential, non-medical living expenses. The event will be held at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott, located at 4000 RCA Blvd., Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Reminiscent of vintage Havana in the 1920s, the Cuban-inspired cocktail reception will feature a signature mojito drink, open bar, authentic Cuban cuisine, a Latin band and salsa dancing, which will start at 6 p.m. Ladies should come in summery cocktail dresses: gentlemen are invited to don cool linen slacks and tropical shirts. Fedoras are optional!
Event chair Brian John, who is a cancer survivor himself, knows just how important it is for patients to focus on what really matters: fighting cancer. Brian spent time in the waiting room of his oncology clinic where he heard stories from other patients. Some were too sick to work, others had lost their income or their family income had been significantly reduced. Some feared their electricity would be disconnected, their car would be impounded and even worse—they feared eviction.
“It made me realize how blessed I was not to have these worries,” said John. “I contacted the FCS Foundation and told them that I would like to help raise money so that patients could concentrate on their recovery.” Before long, John selected the theme of “Havana Nights,” found the perfect venue, and recruited a committee of passionate volunteers.
Bradley Prechtl, Foundation Board Chair and CEO of FCS, said, “When the physicians of Florida Cancer Specialists launched the FCS Foundation, their vision was to raise money for needy cancer patients across the state. This event will be our fist fundraiser on the East Coast and we are very excited by the initial response from our doctors and staff in Palm Beach County.”
“The evening will be truly unique,” said Dr. William Harwin, Founder and President of Florida Cancer Specialists. “This is not only a celebration of Cuban culture and cuisine, it is the means to fund significant nonmedical assistance to individuals in our communities who desperately need our support.”
Tickets are $150 per person and can be purchased on Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation website at Foundation.FLCancer.com/Havana prior to March 2, 2015.
