You can find Ed’s spirit when you hear the birds singing outside your window, on your next bike ride, during your next fly-fishing adventure, or guiding your hand as you pick the next tomato from your garden.
Saturday, November 7th, our Best Friend, Father, and Husband earned his angel wings. Five years ago, Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and ever since has been defying the odds. With the love and support of his family, friends, and Dr. Lane Ziegler of Florida Cancer Specialists and Dr. Kevin Tralins of Bardmoor Cancer Center, Dad underwent chemo therapy and radiation, all while keeping a smile on his face, going into the office, and into court every Tuesday and Thursday.
Although this pandemic has been horrible in so many ways, it also blessed us with cherished time to spend with him. We spent our days feeding the turtles and birds, bike riding, Corvette joy rides, watching the sunsets, going on strolls in Walsingham Park, kayaking, watching “doggy TV,” and eating lots and lots of chocolate.
Edward was born on August 20, 1957, and grew up with his two sisters and six brothers in Centereach, New York. He first received a scholarship to run cross country at Cornell University and become a Veterinarian, but later decided to change his career path to pursue law. He graduated from St. John’s University in Queens, New York, with a B.S. Magna Cum Laude (1979), M.S. in Counseling (1984), and Juris Doctor in Law (1988). Ed practiced law in New York and Pinellas County, Florida, for over 30 years and was a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Court Mediator and Civil Traffic Infraction Hearing Officer. On August 11, 1990, he married Babette and this past August celebrated 30 years of marriage. They share two daughters, Jacqueline and Victoria, son-in-law Casey, and currently have a golden-doodle, Kadi, who they love just as much.
November 7, 2020, marks a bittersweet milestone for many of us as we experience the loss of such a kind-natured soul. With so much love and happiness surrounding this individual, it is natural to be reluctant with our goodbyes. And as we find our footing, it is important to acknowledge this profound grief in order to embrace the life he helped us create. We have been blessed with this person who has guided us to where we are today and will continue with us on our journeys.
You can find Ed’s spirit when you hear the birds singing outside your window, on your next bike ride, during your next fly-fishing adventure, or guiding your hand as you pick the next tomato from your garden. Edward appreciated many things; however it was the simple joys in life that brought him the most happiness. Ed loved getting lost in his garden, spending time with his family and friends, and will be remembered for his quick wit, gentle words, and unconditional love.

Meet Antonio Azzato, the visionary behind the Las Meninas Sculpture Project. To continue the successful and positive spirit of the Las Meninas project in Madrid, Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) and Healing Arts in Medicine are bringing Antonio Azzato’s vision to the United States for the first time.
Azzato was born and raised in Venezuela and has Italian and Spanish roots. He has raised more than 550K euros for different charitable foundations. His experience in the engineering, business, marketing, and interior design fields has given him the technical and artistic training to develop his Meninas Gallery project, which has positioned the silhouette of the Menina as the new icon of the city of Madrid, where he currently resides. Learn more about Antonio here.
Painted by Diego Velázquez in 1656,“Las Meninas” translates to Ladies in Waiting. Considered a masterpiece depicting life in the court of King Philip IV of Spain, the painting represents a turning point in art history for the way in which Velázquez broke from the stiff formal portraits that typically defined royal subjects.
Inspired by the iconic painting “Las Meninas,” which translates to “Ladies in Waiting,” Spanish artist and sculptor Antonio Azzato created larger than life-size statues, fashioned in the shape of the Ladies in Waiting in the famous painting, that have been displayed in the streets of Madrid every fall since 2018. The statues are painted by various Spanish artists and celebrities and used to raise money for different charities. For the project with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS), smaller statues that are white, like a blank canvas, will be distributed to 12 designated FCS clinics. Together with local artists, patients will bring their Las Meninas vision to life, giving each statue its own unique theme and color palette.
Once complete, the Las Meninas sculptures will be on display in local communities, raising awareness of the extreme healing power of art in medicine. After a months-long tour of the state, each will be placed on auction. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation. The Foundation assists cancer patients in need in Florida with essential everyday living expenses.
