Anonymous Grant to Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation Honors Memory of Wife and Compassionate Care She Received

$100,000+ Donation Will Assist Cancer Patients in Need

Sarasota, FL – June 15, 2015…….. Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation (FCSF) recently received a donation of $111,321.00 from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. The munificent gift came from the husband of a cancer patient who was being treated by Dr. Jay Wang, a medical oncologist in Naples practicing at the Sierra Meadows cancer center of Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS).

Dr. Wang said, “As an oncologist, I am often inspired by my patients who face this dreaded disease with such grace and courage. I will always remember this particular patient for her enduring spirit. It was obvious from the amazing way her husband supported her through every step of this journey, that she was a very special woman and that she was so loved.”

Bradley Prechtl, CEO of FCS and Board Chair of the FCS Foundation, added, “We are extremely honored by this philanthropic bequest. The wife of this generous donor passed away in September of 2014, but he never forgot the phenomenal care that his wife received from Dr. Wang and her entire FCS care team. When he called the Foundation office, he told us that he wanted to ‘pay it forward’ and help other cancer patients who were less fortunate. He shared that his wife had a big heart and she believed that all of us should do what we are capable of doing to support charitable organizations such as the Foundation.”

“This gift is an expression of sincere appreciation by a loved one, in memory of his wife,” said Jackie Bearse, FCSF Board Member and Naples philanthropist. “This kindness goes far beyond leaving a lasting impression on this FCS medical hero and staff; they are honored that their passion, dedication and love of caring for patients has translated into a donation that will provide valuable support to cancer patients in need, through the FCS Foundation. It doesn’t get better than this!”

Dr. William Harwin, Founder and President of FCS, said, “When the physicians of Florida Cancer Specialists launched the FCS Foundation, our vision was to raise money for needy cancer patients across the state. It is particularly gratifying when patients and their families join us in this mission and make a contribution to the FCS Foundation; they have first hand experience and understand better than anyone the struggle that some patients face.”

The Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization assisting cancer patients in need throughout the state of Florida. Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute pays for FCSF staff salaries and overhead expenses, so that nearly 100% of all donations go directly to qualified cancer patients to pay for non-medical living expenses.
