Jackie Bearse Named a Healthcare Hero
Sarasota, FL – August 26, 2015…The Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation announced that board member and founding chair of its signature fundraising event, Jackie Bearse, will be honored by the Naples Daily News as its 2015 Volunteer Healthcare Hero.
“I can think of no one more deserving of this honor than Jackie. Her dedication and leadership have been invaluable to the Foundation; she is truly an outstanding volunteer and amazing asset to the Naples community,” said Brad Prechtl, Chairman of the Board of Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation and CEO of Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS).
Bearse helped raise $600,000 with record-breaking attendance at the inaugural “Rio Carnival” FCS Foundation event in 2014 and she has raised the bar with a goal of $1 million for the upcoming April 16, 2016 “Time to Remember” event.
Jackie’s volunteerism and community philanthropy began in 1999 when she moved to Naples from Rhode Island, where she was executive vice president of Lincoln Group. She has been an active supporter of many local non-profit organizations, often chairing large fundraising events. Bearse chaired the 2011 Magnolia Ball, raising $1.2 million, and founded the “Sorority of Survivors” golf tournament to benefit the Naples Community Hospital Breast Cancer Center. In 2009 and 2010, she chaired 21st Century Oncology galas and in 2011, she chaired the Immokalee Foundation Charity Classic. Jackie is the recipient of numerous awards, including the “2012 Women of Initiative” and the “2013 Power Women of Southwest Florida.”
“Healthcare heroes have a significant purpose: to help, heal and save lives. They put others before themselves; see problems and solve them. Jackie is truly making a difference in the health of our community,” said Prechtl.
Heroes in Healthcare were chosen by an independent panel of judges who reviewed nominations solicited from the readers of the Naples Daily News. The 2015 honorees will be featured in an upcoming special section and honored at a celebratory awards breakfast on October 6, 2015.
“Raising funds to help with every-day living expenses for cancer patients undergoing treatment is certainly a worthy endeavor,” said Bearse. “But I think an equally important message is to educate our community about the quality and strength of cancer treatment and care here in Naples, through the collaboration of the outstanding medical professionals within each organization.”
