Bradenton, Fla., September 15, 2023 — The Florida Cancer Specialists (FCS) Foundation (FCSF) is thrilled to announce Dexter Jackson, former safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will be the Special Guest Speaker at the 2023 Tampa Bay Gala. The annual fundraiser will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the JW Marriott, 505 Water Street, Tampa, Florida. In keeping with its sports-oriented theme, this year’s event features a spectacular Chance Drawing for two tickets to the NFL Championship “Big Game” in Las Vegas in 2024.
Honorary Event Co-Chairs, Matthew A. Fink, MD & Don D. Luong, MD, both of whom are medical oncologists at Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS), were excited about Jackson’s participation, saying, “Dexter Jackson is a celebrated athlete who embodies a ‘never-give-up’ attitude and is an inspirational role-model for many of us, including cancer patients who overcome challenges every day. As Buccaneers fans, we are delighted that he is going to be a part of the 2023 Tampa Bay Gala!”
FCS Foundation Board Co-Chairs, Michael Diaz, MD and Raul Storey, MD are also looking forward to meeting the football great, adding “This event is going to be such a fun and exciting evening and having Dexter join us takes it to an even greater level of entertainment! Plus, this is such an important event for the FCS Foundation in raising funds that provide non-medical financial assistance for critical living expenses, such as rent or mortgage, utility bills and car or phone payments, to adult cancer patients currently undergoing treatment in Florida. As oncologists, we know first-hand the devastating effects cancer can have on patients and their families, physically and financially. It is heartwarming to see the difference that financial assistance from the Foundation can make!”
Dexter Jackson was born in Quincy, Florida and attended Florida State University where he was an All-ACC Academia and Player. He graduated from FSU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Family, Child, and Consumer Sciences. Drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1999 NFL draft, Jackson’s momentum and dedication to winning led him to being named MVP for Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003.
Dexter currently works for The Tampa Housing Authority, where he is the Youth and Sports Manager amongst a team of fellow dedicated employees. There, he services the Tampa Bay’s community of elders, youth, and those that need assistance with housing, employment, basic necessities, after school activities, and education. Prior to joining the Housing Authority, he was a certified case manager and college football coach. He is married to Tina Jackson and the couple has four beautiful daughters. Lynn Rasys, Executive Director of the FCS Foundation, added, “The Tampa Bay Gala is going to be over-the-top fun, with dinner, dancing, a tremendous silent auction and, of course, everyone dressed up in their favorite team colors, athletic apparel or sporty cocktail attire with sneakers, which are definitely encouraged! Tickets are still available at $400 per person or $3500 for a table of 10. Limited sponsorships are also available for the gala evening, which includes dinner, dancing and an array of impressive auction items.”
